The Delivery Experience
We deliver to your home every week on your selected delivery day: either Thursday or Saturday.
On the morning of your delivery, we will notify you by email with your delivery window.
In order to keep your produce fresh, we ask that you have a cooler with frozen ice packs ready on your porch, garage, or other accessible location.
We recommend that you move fresh produce into refrigeration within one hour of delivery.
While we maintain no-contact delivery, you must be present if your delivery includes alcohol.
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture”.  It is a relationship between consumers and producers in which consumers pay an upfront fee for a periodic supply of produce.  CSA models are often seasonal (summer, winter).  We have modernized our model to accommodate the busy and changing lives of our customer base to an ongoing subscription model.  Participate when convenient, and take a break when life gets in the way.
What is “Sustainable” and how is it different from “Organic?”
Sustainable farming requires no certification and is often the method of choice for small producers.  The high cost of Organic certification can be an immovable boundary for many, including us.  We employ a wide array of environmentally and ethically-mindful cultivation practices, generally avoidant of toxic chemicals.

Increasingly, many farms are foregoing Organic certification out of principle, as the volume of production and lack of diversity on major Organic farms is not consistent with what many hold to be sustainable practices.  Furthermore, sustainable farming takes into account the sociocultural and socioeconomic aspects of food production.

Creating a food system with a quarterstone of ethical equality and fairness is of parallel importance to regenerative environmentalism.  Positive change is not made with a rote label, but through the humanistic reorienting of ideals.

What does "no contact delivery" mean?
We deliver directly to your doorstep, without compromising physical distancing.  Your subscription will be left into your cooler at the drop-off location of your choosing.  A cooler is required for delivery.
What are "Foodways?"
Foodways are where the cultural, economic, historic, and social traditions of food meet. The term often references specific geographic locations and cultural groups. Foodways are considered to be a combinative art form by the social sciences, and the bedrock of cultural identity.
Is your farm certified Organic?
No, we are not certified Organic.  We are currently too small to afford the cost (and labor) of Organic certification.  That being said, we utilize Organic cultivation methods whenever possible. We aim to look beyond the Organic label, understanding and embracing that sustainable, healthy, and good ecological practices are more nuanced and varied than a government sticker can manage.
Are your partner farms certified Organic?
Some of our partner farms are certified Organic, and some are not.  All of them farm as sustainably as possible, utilizing Organic disease, pest, and weed controls.  As with us, many are too small to afford the cost (in time or dollars) of Organic certification.
How is buying a CSA share different from buying Organic produce from the supermarket?
When you support a CSA, you are supporting the small farms in your nearby region.  The surrounding environment, the local economy, and all parties are strengthened as a result.

When you purchase Organically-certified produce from a supermarket, you are voting with your dollar for a crop production system without damaging chemicals.  However, you are likely not supporting biodiversity, small business, or your local economy aside from the direct revenue generated by the grocery store chain.  Overall, supporting a CSA, whether sustainable or Organic, has the greatest potential for positive effect.
What time will my share be delivered?
Each delivery day will vary slightly based on changes oning in our routes. On the morning of your delivery day, we will email you with our estimated delivery window for you. It will be in the format of "ETA_Today_12:15pm".
Do I need to be home for my delivery?
For deliveries of fresh produce, you do not have to be home for your delivery. However, you must have a cooler with frozen ice packs ready to receive your delivery, and we strongly recommend that your items be moved into refrigeration within one hour of delivery. We cannot be held accountable for any item left unattended for more than one hour.

If your subscription or order includes alcohol, you must be present at the time of the delivery. We cannot legally deliver alcohol unattended.

If you do not expect that you can reliably be home on your delivery day, please do not select that day for delivery.
Can I skip a week?
Absolutely! You can easily skip a week by logging into your account. Once you are logged in, select the Manage My Subscriptions button. From there you can find your next delivery and select Skip. This will defer your subscription by one week.

Please note that we automatically bill on Wednesdays regardless of your delivery day. If you need to skip a week, be sure to skip by the Tuesday prior to your scheduled delivery.
Where do you deliver?
We deliver to locations throughout northern Virginia.  You can see if we are currently delivering to your region here on this map.

If we are not currently delivering to your location and you are interested, please reach out to us and we can see if we can make a change to our routes.
When will my card be billed? When does my subscription renew?
Signing up for any Membership with Artemisia an ongoing subscription.

Unlike a traditional CSA, we will not charge for a full season's deliveries all at once. Instead, we bill on the Wednesday before your selected delivery day. This allows for you to skip a week whenever you need to, and not be charged.

Your Membership with Artemisia will recur automatically until cancelled. If you skip a week, your membership will be deferred by one week.

We always bill on Wednesdays, regardless of your scheduled delivery day. If you need to skip or make changes to your membership, be sure to cancel by the Tuesday prior to your next scheduled delivery.

For more details, view our Subscription Policy.
I just want to purchase the CSA/wine/cocktail subscription. Do I get a free add-on?
While all of our members have the option to purchase add-ons, only Rundle members get a free add-on with their subscription.
Can I upgrade to or downgrade from the Rundle membership?
Absolutely. At any time.

You can easily change your membership by logging into your account. Once you are logged in, select the Manage My Subscriptions button. From there you can cancel your current subscription. From there, simply sign up for the subscription membership that you would like.
