Madeira can be a challenging cocktail ingredient. Its nutty, sometimes sweet profile often leads it into dense, fruit-laden bogs better suited to an elementary school juice cart than a respectable bar. Here, we counter madeira's complex personality with the warm, lean profile of tequila.  The result is something airy, herbal, and yet still grounded.

  • 1 oz Tequila Añejo
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 1 oz H&H Madeira Doce
  • 1 dash Artemisia Æstas Bitters
